DEEP SPACE NORTH INTERCEPT #3(File:Intercept3)
Acceleration: This simulation allows you to blast off the north pole of earth size rogue planet into deep space where the ships ion engines can take over vehicle propulsions. Blastoff simulates a booster rocket that provides high acceleration of 4 g-force straight up from north pole of earth into outer space. The Acceleration of gravity is 9.806 meters per second per second downward (-Y direction). When elevation = 0, Y = 6353 kilometers (radius of earth). Type in the ship orientation ( force direction) and thrust duration, and then click ENTER button. This enters desired course and duration into the spaceship ion propulsion engine control computer. The computer uses the accelerometer sensor inputs to regulate thrust so as to maintain desired acceleration. Engine burn does not begin and Time does not change until an Engine Control Button is clicked. The STOP ENGINE button advances time by an amount specified (Thrust Duration as entered) at zero thrust and zero fuel consumption. During the stop engine period the spaceship will be in freefall, and it will continue to move under the influence of gravity which varies with elevation. Elevation = Yposition - 6353.
Start by launching the spaceship
straight up (90 degrees) with a blast off 4 g-force for a period greater than 400 seconds and then
press STOP ENGINE one or two times observing freefall motion of spaceship.
Before the spaceship is captured by planets gravitation, use a combination of Engine
burns( SLOW, Full Speed Ahead) and Freefalls (STOP Engines) to reach deep space where gravity is weak and navigation using Ion propulsion would be possible. You can
set your goal (game rules) if you wish. Practice docking at space station with a minimum of fuel usage.
Engine Control Buttons Below:
;Reenter course and burn duration after Reset
Note: Ship Orientation and Course are independent of each other.
Exercise: Launch Spacecraft at 90 degrees for 400 seconds by clicking Blast Off . Then press STOP, SLOW, FULL SPEED AHEAD Bottons to advance time and navigate in deep Space. Intercept Space Statind Deep Space #1 (SP1)
Design your own game rules: Time only advances when you click a button. This gives you all the you need to make calculations as required to minimize Fuel Consumption and Intercept velocity. This might be a very good educational exercise, but it might not be much fun. You might want to record the time it takes to safely Intercept Space Station and enemy ship Hostile #1 (H1). Invent your own game! Programming a calculator or building a chart to assist pilot in making a intercept would be both fun and educational. Intercept can be defined as a distance and velocity.
Notes 1 thru 4 refer to Deep Space Intercept metaphor. (1) When Hostile Target is more than 200000.0 km away radar only indicates target azimuth. (2) Spaceship Pulse Doppler Radar indicates target closing velocity, range and azimuth. (3) Not all digits displayed are significant. Engineering Control Panel displays raw computer data. (4) Note that in Intercept #3 Hostile Target will dive into planet. You goal is to intercept Target H1 before it strikes planet. (5) You are located on space station SP1. Drone is launched from North Pole and piloted by you once launched. Copyright 2017 by science-ebooks.com as Freeware. Permission is hereby granted to reproduce this document in its entirety.
